Our current live desk is the MLB Research Brief. Future sports may be added only when we believe the research process, data quality and tracking standards are ready.

Our operating principles are:

We begin with the matchup, evidence, data and context. We do not start with an outcome and work backwards to justify it.

No forced signals

Not every slate deserves a Research Signal.

A day may contain several signals, one signal or none. Where the information is unclear, incomplete or priced poorly, we may publish no signal at all.

Context before headlines

A single statistic, injury report, price movement or recent result rarely tells the full story. We aim to consider the wider matchup before publishing a view.

Price matters

A team or player can be the stronger side and still not represent a worthwhile research position at a particular market price.

Where prices are referenced, they are snapshots from a particular point in time. They can move quickly and may not be available to every reader, in every location or through every provider.

Transparency over selective memory

Where a Research Signal is published, we aim to retain a record of the date, event, market context, published price, result and model-record treatment.

We do not silently alter historical records to make performance look better than it was.

7. Data, Models and Market Limitations
